About Us
Pacific Islands Council Qld (PICQ) is a non‑profit, incorporated community organisation led by volunteer representatives from Pacific Island community groups and individuals who share a commitment to a strong, collective Pacific voice in Queensland. We exist to advocate for the wellbeing, rights, and aspirations of all Pacific Islanders across the state.
From the many and diverse Pacific Island nations represented in Queensland, we come together as one collective to ensure our communities are heard at local, state, and federal levels of government, as well as within the broader Australian community. Our role is to elevate Pacific perspectives, strengthen cultural identity, and support the needs of our people wherever they live.
PICQ’s work is driven by our subcommittees, volunteers, networks, and working groups, which champion Pacific voices across key areas including:
• Climate change and environmental resilience — advocating for climate justice and sustainable futures.
• Justice and migration — supporting fair systems and pathways for Pacific peoples.
• Youth empowerment — nurturing leadership, identity, and opportunities for young Pacific Islanders.
• Women’s welfare and leadership — strengthening safety, wellbeing, and representation for Pacific women.
• Men’s mental health and wellbeing — promoting culturally grounded support and healthy communities.
• Pacific church leadership — connecting faith leaders and strengthening community cohesion.
• Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme — supporting PALM employees, families, and communities engaged in the program.
• Diaspora community support — building strong, connected, and thriving Pacific communities across Queensland.
PICQ continues to grow as the united Pacific voice in Queensland, grounded in culture, community, and collective strength.
